Complete line of touch and laser scanning measuring arms released at IMTS 2010
North Kingstown, RI – September 13, 2010 – Hexagon Metrology Inc. today unveiled the complete new line of ROMER Absolute Arms in Chicago at IMTS 2010, in booth E-5115. In addition to the previously released Absolute Arm six axis arm for tactile and tube inspection, two additional seven axis models will be demonstrated in the "Shop Floor Zone" area of the Hexagon Metrology booth at McCormick Place's east hall.
The new Absolute Arm series of portable CMMs builds on the innovations of prior ROMER arm products and introduces new capabilities, resulting in arms with greater accuracy, lighter weight, and more flexibility than before. Key improvements include elimination of the "homing" procedure at startup, due to the incorporation of exclusive absolute encoders. Interchangeable feature packs allow arm capabilities to be changed or upgraded depending on requirements, providing a built-in upgrade path.
The Absolute Arm seven axis "SI" series with integrated laser scanners delivers the convenience of a fully integrated 3D scanning solution. The scanner is permanently incorporated into the seventh axis, and weight balanced with ROMER's Zero-G counterbalance feature for ergonomics and ease of use. The feature pack contains the scanner interface, so no external controller box is required. Single button automatic laser power control allows scanning of different surface types. No warm up time coupled with no homing procedures means an operator can be up and scanning in just moments. ROMER Absolute Arm with integrated scanner is the first scanning portable arm system on the market that is factory calibrated and system certified to B89 specifications.
The Absolute Arm seven axis "SE" series allows the connection of interchangeable external laser scanners such as the ScanShark V4ix and V5 models, or without a scanner as a 7 axis "pistol grip" tactile inspection system. The ROMER feature pack capability of the SE series arm means that an external laser scanner can easily be added, changed, or upgraded at any time, for greater convenience plus future proofing. The ability to share an external laser scanner such as ScanShark V4ix between a stationary CMM and an Absolute Arm is an added benefit.
