Hexagon Metrology Features Lightest, Smallest Leica Laser Tracker at IMTS 2010The First Battery Powered, Ultra-Long Range Absolute Tracker with IP54 Certification
North Kingstown, RI – September 13, 2010 – Hexagon Metrology Inc. is featuring in the "Outdoor Zone" and the "Shop Floor Zone" of Booth E-5115 at IMTS 2010, the Leica Absolute Tracker AT401, the industry's first wireless, battery powered laser tracker with boundless portability. The Leica AT401 is also the first laser tracker to offer a certified IP54 rating for ingress protection against dust and fluids often found in the industrial environments where it is used. Its ultra-long range and full 290-degree vertical sweep deliver a measuring volume of unprecedented size and accuracy. The Absolute Tracker AT401 is ideal for 3D metrology applications performed by manufacturing users in aerospace, energy, machine building, railway, heavy equipment, tooling and other industries that manufacture large components and assemblies requiring precision measurement within a large volume.
The Leica AT401 has the largest measurement volume of any laser tracker. The sensor provides a maximum measurement volume of 320 meters, coupled with an unrestricted vertical measurement dome of +/-145º resulting in more than twice the measuring volume of conventional trackers, including the ability to measure straight up, which no other tracker can do. The new laser tracking system also sets new standards for accuracy. The ADM (Absolute Distance Meter) in the Leica AT401 has a maximum uncertainty of just 10 microns over the full certified volume of 80 radial meters.
"This is simply the smallest, lightest, ultra-long range laser tracker in the marketplace today," said Zvonimir Kotnik, director of product marketing at Hexagon Metrology Inc. "The 10 micron distance accuracy specification over the certified volume is unprecedented in the tracker industry. Leica takes portable metrology to a completely new level with the AT401 in terms of technology advancements and powerful standard features. This is a pack-and-go metrology solution that fits the lifestyle of today's metrologist taking measurements on the factory floor, in the field, or in a remote location."
The Pack-and-Go Laser Tracker Scales up Features and Portability
The key to the Leica AT401's extreme portability is its light weight, compact dimensions, and battery power. The entire 29cm tall system weighs just 8 kg including the controller, and is packaged in a single case small enough to fit in the overhead bin of an aircraft. Full Wireless capability coupled with battery power and small size allow the instrument to be located almost anywhere, on any stable surface or lightweight tripod.
The AT401 can go where no tracker has gone before, and because of the IP54 rating, it can even be used outside. Battery power is plentiful with a full 8 hours of battery life. The tracker's hot swap batteries enable the operator to install fresh batteries without powering down the system, keeping productivity high.
The unit can also be conveniently hand-pointed toward a target object without disengaging the motors. When access to WIFI is restricted, the Leica AT401 can be outfitted with a power-over Ethernet module to receive both signal and power within a 100-meter. range using a standard CAT 5 cable. The laser tracker can also be operated with an infrared remote control.
The AT401 comes packed with advanced Leica Geosystems technology like the exclusive Powerlock feature, which automatically finds and locks onto any moving reflector within a field of view of one square meter at a five meter distance. In addition to PowerLock, the AT401 includes other enhanced Leica Geosystems features including infinite rotation in both the horizontal and vertical axis, Automatic Target Recognition (ATR), maintenance-free Piezo drives and a survey grade precision level to gravity sensor.
