Coreview 6.0 Software for Cognitens Released

North Kingstown, RI – January 31, 2012 – Hexagon Metrology today announced the immediate availability of CoreView 6.0 for the Cognitens WLS400 series. Winner of Photonic Tech Brief’s 2011 Reader’s Choice Product of the Year, the WLS400 white light series is available in both automated and manual configurations. Coreview 6.0, the latest upgrade to the WLS 400 series’ software suite, features offline programming, native 64-bit support, new measurement capabilities, fast reporting tools along with computation accelerations and higher system throughput. The additional capabilities are designed to enhance inspections and increase overall system efficiency and throughput.

Native 64-bit architecture enables all CoreView modules to use full memory and CPU resources. This supports larger CAD files, dense point cloud visualization and accelerated result computation. New flush and gap capabilities support measurement of matching parts, including studs, in their actual assembled position. Additionally, CoreView 6.0 provides a “Metrology Advisor” function which supports the Cognitens WLS400 user with online guidance and helps create a more efficient process for measuring points and features. Using the High Definition mode, the WLS 400A automated system recognizes character lines, also known as tornado or beauty lines, along the entire length of a car. This function can be added to existing measurement routines, for example in automated Cognitens WLS400A closure cells. The improved Automated Measurement computation in Coreview 6.0 enables a higher system throughput by allowing a new measurement cycle to begin in parallel with computing measurement results of the previous run. This ensures continuous inspection with minimal interruptions. The software’s improved reporting functions feature newly designed callout annotations with one-click positioning, alignment and distribution of callouts across the area of interest for meaningful presentation of measurement results.

About Cognitens

Cognitens is the leading provider of 3D optical measurement solutions for industrial applications. Cognitens dimensional measurement systems help improve engineering and manufacturing processes in automotive and other manufacturing industries. Based on innovations in 3D non-contact measurement technology, Cognitens solutions help increase efficiency during critical stages of preproduction, launch, ramp up and mass production. Cognitens provides tools and processes for capturing, analyzing and distributing highly meaningful dimensional metrology information to support different industrial engineering activities such as tooling, part production, assembly, quality and process control. Cognitens, founded in 1995 is today part of Hexagon Metrology group, the world’s largest measurement technologies company.

Cognitens WLS400 Voted Product of the Year

The readers of “Photonic Tech Briefs” (PTB) magazine have chosen Cognitens white light measurement systems as one of three products of the year for 2011.  This is the result of voting conducted in December among twelve "product of the month" finalists. The award goes to the most significant new introductions to the photonics engineering community.

The manual Cognitens WLS400M and the automated Cognitens WLS400A, Hexagon Metrology’s white light measurement systems, use digital stereo vision technology to generate 3D data. The systems are available in a portable configuration (WLS400M) and an automated system (WLS400A), which can be operated with all common industrial robots. The Cognitens WLS400M is the only high-performance 3D white light scanner that can be used in a hand-held mode, in addition to tripod or boom mounts. Both products include blue LED lighting technology, which enables a broad variety of surface finishes to be measured or reverse engineered in nearly any environment, due to the systems' millisecond-fast data aquisition speed and insensitiviy to vibration.
